Skylar Stecker is a singer-songwriter from Tampa, Florida. Starting out singing the National Anthem for sporting events, she released her first studio album in 2015, with songs hitting the Dance Club charts. With continued success, she has been featured on Radio Disney as the Next Big Thing and maintained a spot on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs Chart. With a new single released, she is one to watch out for!
BL: How old were you when you started to make music?
Skylar: 9 years old
BL: What instruments do you play?
Skylar: Piano, Guitar, and presently learning drums.
BL: What is your favorite part about being a musician?
Skylar: I love the entire process of making the music and performing it live and everything in-between!
BL: You’ve performed the national anthem at over 100 sports games! Do you ever get performance anxiety? If so, how do you get over it?
Skylar: I never use to but in the past year a little bit. I think it’s because I don’t do it as much as I did when I was younger and just starting out.
BL: How do you come up with new songs?
Skylar: Many different ways. But my favorite way is to start on the piano.
BL: You’re an actress and musician! How do you balance your time between the two?
Skylar: Music is my true love and will always come first in my life. But acting once in a while is a fun challenge to mix things up a bit.
BL: What advice would you give to young girls starting out?
Skylar: My advice is to learn to do everything you can in music so that you don’t have to rely on others to make music that you love. My other piece of advice would be is to work on your craft every single day!
BL: How do you deal with online bullying or kids being mean at school?
Skylar: I honestly just ignore it. I know who I am, and how hard I work and so I won’t let negative thoughts or people creep into my life.
BL: What do you think makes a good friend?
Skylar: Someone who is honest with you 100% of the time and has only good intentions.
BL: What is your favorite thing to do with friends?
Skylar: Hang out and watch movies
BL: Is there anything you are excited about in the near future?
Skylar: I am so excited about 2019! I have a ton of new music to share with the world.
BL: What is next for you in your career?
Skylar: I am putting out my first Independent album in 2019!
BL: If you could tell your 13-year-old self one thing, what would you say?
Skylar: I would tell my younger self to ALWAYS trust your intuition on people and situations and follow your gut!
BL: What are some things you are currently into?
Skylar: Music is always what I am into 24/7!
BL: Top 5 things you can’t live without?
Skylar: My headphones, piano, phone, tv, and the ability to cook!
BL: Current favorite fad?
Skylar: bandanas!
